Sebastian Inlet Report

01-12-12 THURSDAY: BLUES, BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD AND BLACK MARGATE

It's a glorious morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the West at 5 mph and the water is nice and calm. It looks like a real pretty day to get out and wet a line! A small craft advisory will go into effect this evening through Friday afternoon ahead of the coming cold front.

The Blues came on like gangbusters yesterday according to Walton at the Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop. An angler came into the shop and reported that he hit his limit of 10 in a very short time period. Blues will hit just about anything that is thrown out, so targeting them is pretty simple. The limit is 10 per person per day, between 14" - 24". The Black Drum bite picked back up along with Sheepshead and Black Margate. Live and dead shrimp and clams work well for Black Drum. Sheepshead will hit shrimp, clams, crabs and sand fleas and slow moving jigs tipped with those baits. The Black Margate were hitting cut frozen clams and shrimp yesterday, they rarely take artificial baits.

The first photo is of Michael with a big 7.5 lb Sailcat he landed. It's pretty large for a Sailcat as the Florida record is 8 lbs, 14 oz.

The next Photo is of Michael fishing the seawall on the south side of the inlet. Michael landed several good sized Whiting and released a nice Sea Trout.
