Pesky Red Fish, it seems they are every where, all the places you don’t want them to be. Cross Roads, the area where Indian River and the St Lucie meet, a great location for the Pompano and usually it is, if the Red Fish are not there. Pompano, we waited all year, it is their time and we know it, just some body for got to tell the Red’s. We have the jigs, sand fleas and what ever else we need for the Pomp’s, and the pesky Red Fish love them all. More than one commercial angler has asked “what’s with all the Red’s”. At the bridges we could catch some Pompano if the Reds would leave the jigs alone and if that is not enough the Blues and Mac’s will come through and finish off your last jig. So go north to Herman’s Bay and Blind Creek these Pomp’s are always skipping in that area that is if the Reds don’t get your bait first. So look like you know what you are doing and go catch a Pesky Red Fish and may be as a by catch a Pompano will surprise you. Plenty of Trout, the season is closed, with a strong mix of Blues, Mac’s and Jacks to keep you busy, they eat about any thing you can through, wind is keeping us on the east side of the river. Bridges, drum, all of the above and after the sun goes down, Snook will over the slot but they will test your equipment, if the Blues don’t get it first.
Surf has been on and off, it is all about conditions. Surf has been blowing in and depends on the day if it is fish able. Blues on cut baits and spoons, with a mix of Jacks and Mac’s to keep you busy. Yes, there are sand fleas and yes there is Pompano you just have to get on the other side of the Blues, Mac’s and Jack’s to find them. If Pompano is your game catch the high tide, that tends to bring them in casting range, sand fleas and clam are the favored baits.
