Sebastian Inlet Report

 BLUES, SPANISH MACKEREL, POMPANO, BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD, SNOOK AND REDS 

We have an overcast morning at the inlet but conditions are real nice. Winds are blowing out of the West at 9 mph and the water is nice and calm (for now). We will probably see rain this afternoon and the winds will probably pick up as well. 

 We had a nice Pompano bite and Black Drum, Sheepshead and Blues came over the rails as well. Catch and release Snook and big Reds have been active, mostly at night. We've seen a lot of smaller Spanish Mackerel off the beaches and jetties but they seem to be increasing in size, which is great news for all the Mack lovers out there! Silver spoons, Gotcha lures, small shiny bait fish and sometimes small shrimp can do the trick for Spanish Mackerel. They like baits with a little glitz so add some shine and color if you are targeting Mackerel.

 

A enormous Black Drum 51", landed off the north jetty on Sunday it took about 30 minutes to land it, and two people to get this beast up onto the north jetty. After photos they released the big Drum to get out and make more little Drum. Once they reach this size, it's usually best to release them as they can be tough and stringy. What a catch!

Inshore, we received reports of pompano in the surf on Ft. Pierce's south beach. Anglers reported catching them on clam strips and sand fleas. More reports yesterday from the south jetty of some excellent flounder fishing. I have talked to some folks that have been reporting some good snook action in skinny water on top water lures, like a 31/2" Bomber Badonk-a-Donks. Trout fishing has been good when you can find a spot out of the wind.

Inshore, there are lots of reports of good flounder fishing right now at the south jetty and back in the lagoon. We are still getting reports of some good redfish catches in the lagoon mostly north St. Lucie and south Indian River counties. Gulp products have been producing results on both the flounder and redfish.

03-30-11 WEDNESDAY: BLUES, POMPANO, SHEEPSHEAD, BLACK DRUM, REDS, SNOOK AND SPANISH MACKEREL It's an overcast morning at the inlet and there's a good chance that we will see some rain today, particularly this afternoon. Winds are blowing out of the East at 20 mph this morning but we have a lot of wind proof anglers out on the north jetty trying their luck. Fishing has been good. Yesterday we saw some real nice sized Pompano come over the rails and in good numbers. Blues ran pretty much throughout the day and large Sheepshead are abundant around the structures. Catch and release Snook have been active as well as Black Drum. Small Spanish Mackerel have started to show and those big Reds have been very active during the evening hours.

Inshore, a good snook bite was reported on the south jetty yesterday and we also received some reports of excellent flounder fishing in the lagoon. 

Anglers reported a good catch of redfish again in the north lagoon using Berkley Gulp products. The weather kept most anglers in port yesterday and reports of some more much needed rain are in the forecast today.

At the beach it was Blues, Pompano and Whiting in and out all day, no pattern but just fish if the one you want is not there wait thirty minutes and it will show, no pattern. Normally it would be Blues in the early part of the day but not this week, Pompano when that edge warms, but not this week it was location, location and when you thought you had it figured they would change and I am not so sure they are not laughing at us. Cut bait for the Blues and clam for the others sure put a lot of fish on the beach, no matter what time. Did I mention the thirty pound Jacks




Too many Reds, from rats to the top of the slot, from north to south, east side or west it has been a morning bite. These fish school buy size so that may help you make that decision, do I leave or not. Anglers report action from the mangroves north of Little Mud on the east, docks south of Walton Road on the west to Boy Scout Island south of the Stuart Causeway using live shrimp or soft rubber baits. Bone fish in the Sail Fish flats; anglers casting that little spoon for Pompano are finding them in good numbers. Tout in good numbers on most grass edges, Pompano look to the deep water or flats close to that deep water, that little spoon move slowly across the bottom is the winner. 

Yes there is plenty of Spanish Mac’s south of the inlet, Tarpon at the Boils, Snook season is closed, Black Drum at the bridges it has been a fishy week, with beautiful weather…….could it get any better……………………………………….HENRY

Inshore, reports from numerous anglers indicated that the snook were in skinny water and artificial baits of all kinds were getting the job done. One angler told me that he tried to use live bait and artificial baits were actually providing better results. Anglers reported a catch of  trout and pompano yesterday afternoon south in the lagoon all on DOA glow shrimp.

March might have roared in like the lion that it is noted for, but the latter part of the month has favored us with fantastic weather.  Even on the windy days, you can still get out and enjoy some great fishing.  April promised to bring us even better fishing and weather!


Treasure Coast Fishing Forecast - April 2011

As March blows out of the area, you can plan on plenty of windy days in April. It’s a transition month as the weather progresses from spring into summer patterns. Warm days will bring the water temperatures up into the 70’s and that means great fishing conditions around the Indian River. Plan on getting out early in the morning on the flats before the wind wakes up later in the day. At least the winds won’t have that cold chill as April settles into the Treasure Coast….

Redfish and trout will be active around the flats. They will be shallow early and gradually move to the edges of the flats as the sun get higher in the sky. Look to areas like Bear Point, Harbor Branch and Round Island for trout to be feeding on the flats. On a calm morning, break out the top water lures and switch to jerk baits, like a DOA CAL 4” Arkansas Glow. Shallow running Mirrolures will also entice the trout into biting. Don’t forget to use the Deadly Combo for more exciting trout action on the grass flats. There has been a lot of redfish activity throughout March and it should make April a fantastic month. We have a very good population of redfish this year. Redfish can be found on sandy flats around the docks or try the Moorings and Bear Point for a chance at a nice size red. DOA shrimp or CAL grub tails in root beer or glow colors are great ways to find a redfish along with a trusty gold spoon.

Snook will be around, but not the main target this year since they are out of season. They will be feeding as the water warms. Catch and release them carefully as the water warms. Docks will hold sheephead, jacks, redfish and many other species. I like either a DOA shrimp or TerrorEyz around docks. Fish them slowly to keep them under the dock as long as possible. Drop a live shrimp or pinfish under a dock as well for a great chance at hooking up. There are many great areas to fish so plan on getting some fishing in this month.

Bridges will continue to hold sheephead, jacks, bluefish and some black drum. The big jacks will be invading the river this month. Maybe not great to eat, but a tough battle on light tackle. The inlet will continue to hold bluefish, jacks and mackerel. While April might be a little windy, it a great month to fish the Indian River.

April is the first month that fish can enjoy good water temps and they will be feeding heavily around the flats. Early morning can bring lots of good results this time of year. It was a milder winter this year and the fish are anxious to enjoy some warmer weather…..and so are we!

From Whites Tackle-Ft. Pierce

Inshore, Mike Bunnell reported a catch of redfish while wading in the lagoon around the midway road area. Mike reported the catch came from Berkley Gulp and DOA products. The trout fishing has actually slowed a little bit, the water temperature is still a little cool and the windy conditions have the water a little silted. Trout especially don't like the silt in their gills.

It is another beautiful day at the inlet and we have a great forecast for the weekend. Winds are blowing out of the North at 8 mph this morning and the water is calm. Boaters, always check the coastal forecast prior to going offshore, this morning looks like a great day for boating or surf fishing. Get out and do some fishing this weekend!
The Pompano have been hitting clams for anglers fishing the beaches. Whiting and Blues have been active off the beaches as well. The jetties have been producing Blues; most anglers have been using silver spoons although they are not picky and will hit just about anything. Good sized Sheepshead have been hanging around the pilings of the jetties and catwalks as well as some smaller Margate. Spanish Mackerel have started to show, Gotcha lures or spoons work well for those. The Black Drum bite has been sporadic but there have been a few landed that have been real good sized. A few Flounder are still out there and a few lucky anglers have taken home one or two. Those big Reds and catch and release Snook have been very active in the evening hours, giving the jetty fishermen plenty of exercise!

Inshore, we received reports of some very good pompano action in the surf on the north beach up to the cove in Vero Beach yesterday. Spring trout fishing has been good the last few days as expected. We also heard that the action for flounder from the south jetty has been good on live shrimp and small jigs tipped with shrimp.

It's another foggy morning at the inlet but if it's anything like yesterday, we'll have another beautiful day ahead of us! Winds are blowing out of the North Northeast at 10 mph this and the water is calm. Winds could pick up a little this afternoon.
Overall we had a slow day at the inlet yesterday. In the morning, the north jetty produced a couple of nice catch and release Snook, a few Pompano and some Blues. There was a nice Flounder landed off the north catwalk and the south jetty produced one big Black Drum and a few Blues but that was about it.

Inshore has been picking up on the backside of the full moon.  There are PLENTY of redfish around with a good size average.  Most of the reds to the North have been from 25-35 inches!  The Spring trout fishing has been picking up.  We have been catching some really solid trout the last few weeks.  Snook fishing is starting to get right both day and night.  There are still some nice snook in the inlet and plenty moving into the back country.

It's a foggy morning at the inlet but the fog will burn off as the sun gets hotter and we should have a real nice day ahead of us. Winds are blowing out of the North at 6 mph and the water has a light chop. 
Bluefish, Sheepshead, catch and release Snook, keeper and oversized Reds off the jetties and Pompano and Whiting have been showing up off the beaches. Some nice sized Trout have been landed on the flats. The jetties and beaches are starting to look like spring has arrived. Lots of folks are getting out and enjoying the fantastic weather we've been having the past week. 
 An angler fishing for Pompano Saturday landed five Pompano using clams, the largest was 22.5"! It fought so hard it almost took his pole!

Sebastian Inlet Report

What a beautiful morning at the inlet! Winds are blowing at 4 mph out of the North and the water is calm. There is a little swell for all you surfers out there, keep an eye on the web cam looking northeast to see if it's building. Winds are expected to pick up a little this afternoon and it could get blown out.
We are still seeing a lot of Bluefish and Sheepshead dominate the catches but Snook have been prevalent which is a good sign for the fall opening. Reds have been in play, Whiting and Pompano have been landed in the surf on the north and south beaches.

Back from Keys

Sorry for the late reports for the weekend, I took a trip down to the Keys and had a great time hitting a few of the bridges (channel 2 & 5, 7mile, and Long Key). My son and myself did very well on the snapper,we had our the best bite at Long Key Bridge. I have a friend who lived in the keys and told us about a spot he fishes on Long Key Bridge, it’s about 1/2 mile out on the bridge, but it was worth the walk. We lived up to our ON FOOT ANGLER style of fishing. We must have released 30-40 keeper snapper, but keeping just enough for a few meals, and a bunch of grouper released (closed season). We chummed and used mostly live and “FRESH” frozen shrimp, the pinfish where out in full force. I meet and made a few new friends who gave me a few hints on whats going on down there, the guys at Caloosa Cove Marina, and the Ladies at Marathon Bait & Tackle. THANKS for the info..Take the trip down, hit me up and I’ll give you more info. on whats going on down that way. In time the Keys are going to be apart of my regular report.

It's a breezy morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 15 mph and the water is churned up. 
Saturday was absolutely beautiful at the inlet and we had some decent fishing from the jetties and from shore. Catch and release Snook were plentiful Friday and Saturday through Saturday evening as were over, under and keeper Reds. Blues were thick on Saturday and we saw Sheepshead, a few small Mackerel and a couple of Black Drum come over the rails as well. The winds picked up Sunday and conditions quickly deteriorated. The waves got big and rough and there were a couple of teenage boys pulled out to sea along the north side of the north jetty. A angler was fishing the north eastern part of the north jetty and saw the boys in trouble and with the assistance of another unknown angler; they tossed the life preserver down to the boys and pulled them to shore. Although the boys were tossed about and banged up against the pilings, they had no serious injuries. Thanks to the quick thinking and actions of the north jetty anglers and the Sebastian Inlet State Park for maintaining those life preservers from all of us at the Sebastian Inlet District.

INSHORE- The bite inshore has still been pretty good, although with the hot bite offshore, it is getting a little less attention these days.  With slightly warmer temperatures the snook bite is improving by the day.  The spotted seatrout have not left the grassflats yet, nor have all the pompano.  With all of that said, fishing a DOA shrimp on your favorite flat should produce some nice mixed bag action.  MacArthur State Park, Munyon Island, and Hobe Sound flats are all holding some fish these days.

SURF/PIER- The pompano bite was very good a couple of days this week, and very very slow the others.  Just seems like you have to get in front of them on the right day.  Sandfleas, if you can find them, are still the top producer; with shrimp and clams picking up the slack.  Some nice whiting and croakers are picking up the slack when the pompano don’t want to bite.  The bluefish haven’t totally left yet, and the big springtime blues should show pretty much any day.  The blacktip sharks are still around in good numbers as well.  Snook are hanging around the pier with the warmer weather, and they are hungry.

Inshore is still good.  The big full moon slowed the day bite down a bit yesterday, but we are still seeing good numbers of reds, big trout, and some nice snook.  Look for the trout to reach their heaviest weights of the year in the next few weeks.  As long as we don't have any more substantially cold weather we should be looking at good water temps and good Spring Fishing!!!!

It's another beautiful day at the Sebastian Inlet. This morning winds are blowing out of the South at 7 mph and there is a light chop on the water. We have another phenomenal weekend forecasted, get out and take advantage of the wonderful weather and improved fishing this weekend. As the temperature starts to rise, we will see increased activity at the inlet which we've been experiencing this week.

Nice sized Blues and Sheepshead have been the dominant catches this week but anglers have also brought in some Reds, Pompano, Flounder, Whiting, Spanish Mackerel, Jacks and a few Black Drum. Cobia are running offshore.

Winds have picked up a little but it's absolutely beautiful at the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 14 mph and there is a chance they will increase later today. There is a light chop on the water.

Fishing has picked up so far this week. Lots of good sized Blues, Sheepshead, smaller Spanish Mackerel, decent sized Pompano, under, over and keeper Reds and Jacks have all made appearances keeping jetty and surf fishermen busy and happy. Plus, the weather has been most cooperative!

We understand that the tide pool has been producing some nice sized Blues, Trout, Reds and C/R Snook. Give that area a try if the jetties start getting too crowded!

Inshore the redfish are still in abundance and there have been some big snook and trout caught on the flats as well. As the water warms in the coming weeks an early morning big topwater works great. There are some pompano still being caught and the bluefish and mackerel are still plentiful. 
I heard a report from the Keys also. Everyone there, like us, is waiting on the water temperature to rise. There are however some permit and a few tarpon on the flats. I heard one report of a guide having 10 permit shots the just two days ago. If your planning a trip down there just hope for a little warmer water. That's all it will take to get things really heated up.

It's another beautiful day at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the South at 9mph and the water is calm. If you get to the inlet, write in and let us know about your experience!
We are still seeing lots of Bluefish and lots of Sheepshead coming over the rails with good size. Fiddler crabs, sand fleas, shrimp or clams will work best for the Sheepshead; they prefer crunchy baits and Blues are not picky at all. Silver spoons, cut bait, just about anything will work for that species. This morning 4 keeper sized Flounder were landed on finger mullet and one keeper Red also came over the rails on finger mullet as well.
Thursday at 1:00 p.m. the Sebastian Inlet State Park will present a power point presentation entitled "Something for Everyone" at the Sebastian Inlet Fishing Museum on the south side of the Park. Find out what's new and all of the things to do at the Sebastian Inlet State Park.

Inshore, yesterday afternoon the the jacks and spanish mackerel were thick in the inlet and blowing up the bait they were feeding on. We heard that the snook fishing from the catwalk has been heating up and trout fishing on the flats has been good in the early morning and late afternoon.
We are also getting some great reports from both local ponds and lakes and over in Okeechobee, that the spring bass fishing has been the best it has been in years. Spring time is always a great time in Florida for both saltwater and fresh species.

A Quick Look

I was talking to Todd from (Juno Bait And Tackle), he was talking about it starting to pick up a little at Juno Pier and sure enough I went by and 3 cobia where caught earlier today.

Matt and most of the other cobia fisherman use one of the jigs Matt makes himself. These are killer for the cobia, they aren't cheap but the cobia --LOVE THEM--

INSHORE- The mixed bag action on the inshore grassflats just keeps rolling on.  A wide variety of species (pompano, ladyfish, jacks, trout, redfish, snook, snapper, sheepshead, black drum, and more) have all been caught in varying degrees over the past few weeks inshore.  The flats around Munyon Island and Jupiter Island/Hobe Sound (Mile MArker 40-46 in the ICW) are continuing to produce the best.  For those fishing bait it is all about live shrimp right now, fished on a flatline or under a popping cork.  For those leaning towards the lures; stick with Doc’s Goofy Jigs, DOA 1/4oz Shrimp, Gulfstream Shrimp or Redfish Jigs, Cotee Chubby Grubs, or DOA CAL Jerkbaits.  I lean towards the DOA CAL in #419 or the shrimp in #441 for consistent all around action.  The trick with fishing the DOA shrimp is to fish it, as DOA creator Mark Nichols says, “slower than dead.”  The Loxahatchee River is still producing a few pompano on Goofy Jigs, with the ladyfish picking up the slack in the down periods.  Word is the inshore fishing in the Stuart and Jensen area is very good right now.  The lures are all the same, where exactly the fish are…you will have to find that out on your own(mostly because I don’t know, otherwise I’d tell).

SURF/PIER- (Be sure to check out coming soon info on front page for info about surf casting seminar this weekend)  Pompano fishing was a little better up and down the beach this week.  It wasn’t so much quantity, but the quality of the fish was very good!  Bait fishing with sandfleas, clams, and fresh cut shrimp was the ticket on the beach; a few were caught with Goofy Jigs 

on the pier as well(that is a very early bite, as the sharks run them off as soon as the sun starts to peek up).  Whiting have been biting on the pier this week, with very fresh cut shrimp being the bait of choice.  Bluefish are once again making a nice showing.  And as mentioned above, the sharks are still hanging around.

***BAIT NOTE- With any luck sardines(in some form) should be back in stock sometime  next week (most likely Tues or Wed)***

The week was the usual windy March weather that we expect to see.  We were rewarded most of the week with a great trout and sheephead bite out on the river.  By weekend, the water had cooled down just enough to slow the trout bite,but the redfish were out there feeding.  We did happen on one nice school of reds that we couldn't get close enough to cast.

Our best areas for trout have been Bear Point and Queen's Cove in two to four feet of water using either live bait or DOA CAL jerk baits. Our redfish also came by using the CAL 4" jerk baits.  Docks are holding plenty of hungry sheephead, bluefish and jacks.  We have kept busy reeling in fish when we could get around just about any of the docks this week.
It was a challenging week for sure to fish around the steady winds of the month.  It won't be long until summer has arrived and things will calm down again.  There are plenty areas to fish that are out of the driving winds and the fish continue to bite as long as the water temperatures have warmed up.  Have fun and get out fishing!

Inshore has really improved.  There are plenty of snook in the 15-20 pound class making there way into the shallows.  The trout fishing has gotten really good (as far as big spring fish go).  We have been catching some really good fish in 2' of water on jerk baits.  Redfish are still pretty thick, although most of the large schools have broken up.  This is usually a good thing being that it's easier to feed smaller groups (twos and threes).  The nighttime snook fishing in the inlet has still been great as well.

It's a gorgeous morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the North Northeast at 5 mph and the water is calm. We have a whole week of wonderful weather ahead of us, make some plans to get out and enjoy it! We could see the breeze pick up a little but the forecast is calling for temperatures in the high 70's -low 80's all week long.

Blue fish and Sheepshead are thick at the inlet. Anglers fishing near the bridge and off the catwalks did particularly well with the Sheepshead. Sand fleas, small crabs, shrimp and clams work for the Sheepshead and silver spoons are a good choice for Blues. A few small Pompano, Reds and Black Drum, came over the rails as well.

Good morning, well despite the freezing weather this morning (42 degrees) at least the winds are down! the diminished winds will help improve the fishing in the lagoon for sure. The cool weather will drive the water temperature down, but the cooler temperatures and lack of wind should help improve the clarity of the water.
Scott when on a late afternoon fishing trip yesterday, and seemed to do pretty well on some big seatrout. He sent me two different pictures. Both of them were really nice fish. From the pictures they appeared to be in the six the eight pound range. He caught them on an Exude dart. The dart is a short weedless soft plastic that works great in shallow water were predators lay. There have also been some reports of big snook moving out of the inlets deeper warm water to feed on the shallows. Not many have been caught but several have been seen.

It's cold out on those jetties this morning! The wind has died down since yesterday but it's still coming out of the East at 15 mph, add that to the temperature drop and it's time to bundle up a bit. There is a small craft advisory in effect until 4:00 p.m. Although winds are predicted to die down a little more each day over this weekend.

 Blues and Sheepshead were the main catches of the day and a couple of small Pompano were landed and returned. There was a short window when the Black Drum bite was good and a few nice ones were landed in the afternoon. The evening is producing some real big Reds. With the wind predicting to slow down over the weekend, surf fishing for Pompano could be a possibility.

Inshore some monster snook have started making their Spring Break Vacation onto the flats.  I have seen some really big snook lately, several in the thirty pound class. Anglers caught a couple in the twenty pound class yesterday afternoon once the cold front pushed through.  They were caught on Exude darts.  There are still plenty of redfish around, the better schools have had fish in the 26-33" range.  The trout are getting FAT, and these next two months should produce the heaviest fish of the year.  I think next week should be a banner week on the flats with the tides and rising temps.

It's rainy and windy at the inlet. Winds are blowing at 35 mph hour out of the East, the water is choppy, there is a small craft advisory but we still have a few weather-proof anglers out on the north jetty trying their luck!
Blues have been good sized and have been coming over the rails in pretty good numbers but it seems that the tide pool has been producing more bites than the jetties for that particular species. Pompano have started to show, Sheepshead have been steady, Black Drum have been sparse.

Inshore the trout bite has really turned on to the South.  People have reported dozens of fish up to six pounds. 

Soft plastics from D.O.A. fished on a 1/4 oz. Slayer Inc. head have been working great.  D.O.A. shrimp have been working well for trout and reds as well as some really nice pompano.  In the last week or so I have seen some jumbo snook moving up onto the flats.  Spring is in the air!

We knew it wouldn't last, winds are back up today, blowing out of the Southwest at 18 mph this morning and the water is choppy. The winds are blowing the waves up and over the jetties so some type of rain gear would be advisable today. Small craft should exercise caution. 

Yesterday morning the bite was on the slow side. Before noon, one Black Drum, 5 - 6 Sheepshead, a few Blues and Jacks and one Whiting came over the rails. Word has is that the recently dredged tide pool has being going off like crazy with Bluefish. If you get tired of battling the winds on the jetties, you could always give that area a try.

Inshore- The pompano fishing has still been good in the Loxahatchee River and Jupiter Island/Hobe Sound Flats of the Intracoastal(ICW).  3/8oz Doc’s Goofy Jigs in pink, gold, or yellow seem to be the ticket for the pompano these days.  Put a little bit of 25 or 30lb flurocarbon on to help save some of those jigs from the ladyfish and jacks that are mixed in.  The new Hook-Ups pompano jig or Gulfstream Lures shrimp jig are also very effective for some mixed bag action.  If your more into bait fishing, shrimp or sandfleas are the ticket.  Mixed in with the pompano, should be some nice sheepshead and black drum.  The flats around MacArthur State Park have been alive with a variety of fish.  A few spotted seatrout, redfish, jacks, ladyfish, and pompano have all been caught the last few days.  Live shrimp will no doubt provide the most chances at the above listed species.  Sandperch, small mangrove snapper, and a few sheepshead and black drum are biting under a few of the local bridges.

Surf/Pier- Fishing has been pretty slow, with the exception of the spinner sharks hanging around.  Bluefish have been a little bit north of us, so some north wind may help push them down.  Pompano bite has been very tough, as the sharks have most of the fish pushed inshore.  Some good whiting and croaker catches in the surf.  Keep the hooks small and use fresh cut shrimp for best luck. If your into shark fishing, do it now while the spinners and blacktips are stacked up in the surf.

What a difference a day makes. This morning winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 7 mph and the water is much calmer. Thank goodness the winds have subsided for now; it's much warmer out on the jetties this morning. 

Even though the water was choppy and the winds were cold and strong yesterday, Blues, Black Drum, Sheepshead and a few Pompano came over the rails. Silver spoons work well for the Blues, clams or shrimp for the Drum and Pompano and sand fleas, shrimp or small crabs for the Sheepshead work well.

 March came in like a Lion, whipping up the water in the Bay, no kidding. Winds blew steady 20mph gusting to 35mph for three days, mix in a little rain and you get the idea of conditions.
Surf has been a blow out, hard wind has kept most off the beach, and the Pompano were at Bath Tub access. The reef blocks that strong pull and the fish know it but now you do, so keep that in the back of your file. As the surf lays down the Blues bite will continue and the Pompano will be right there with them, water temp is the key.
River anglers were on the east bank hiding from the wind, flat water was the location. But it was also a good reason to fish the North Fork of the
St Lucie, a very sheltered area. Pt. St. Lucie blvd, go north, the salinity levels are high and the fish are there, Trout, big Pompano, Jacks, Blues and small Tarpon, Snook well the season is closed so we are not going to say any thing about the bridge. This area winds and curves with plenty of deep water, the turns are four feet on one side and twenty feet on the other, lots of water and again very sheltered. Blue fish so thick you could walk on them at the Palm City bridge, even the Blues wanted away from the wind, if only we could get the weather man to fish I know we could have better weather………………….till next week………………………………Henry

Sebastian Inlet Report

It's more of the same at the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the East at 20 mph and the water is choppy. 

Saturday actually turned out to be a fairly productive day for fishing. Although the water was rough and conditions were less than desirable, fish were biting. Sunday was not as productive with the rains moving in, less people headed for the inlet. Saturday a nice variety of fish were landed. Blues, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Jacks and Reds all came over the rails. The newly opened tide pool is producing fish once again. Some good sized Blues were landed there Friday. That is another spot to consider especially when the winds are high; it's a little more sheltered.

Inshore has been decent.  The wind made it tough last week, and most of the West side of the river was un-fishable.  There were plenty of nice redfish and trout caught in the TCC Tournament on Saturday.  The top-water bite has started getting good.  Small Spooks and top water Mirror Lures have been wroking well.   I have started to see some jumbo snook making there way up on the flats the last week or so.  Hopefully we won't get anymore cold weather and we will start to see Spring water temps.

March has certainly roared in like its reputation for being windy.  Most days have been challenging at best to get out on the river.  We did miss a couple days this past week when it was just out of control.  When you can get out fishing, the bite has been fantastic on the flats.  It's that transition time of year when the water finally hits the magic temperature and all the fish are hungry.  We have enjoyed some good days out there!
We have enjoyed a very good trout bite this week and some nice sized ones as well that have been over the 20" mark.  Live shrimp on popping corks, DOA CAL jerk baits and Deadly Combos have kept us busy on the trout flats.  The CAL's have been working wonderfully to get the trout in the mood to eat.  Some days it was a workout to fish the areas in all the winds, but the fish have continued to cooperate.  Most areas that we fished have been producing trout.  Harbor Branch, Queen's Cove, Round Island and Bear Point are just a few of the spots that we have fished with good results.
The redfish are biting around the mangroves when you were able to fish them.  We also managed a couple nice flounder on the flats as well.  Docks can keep you busy with sheephead, jacks and other species as the winds will let you fish them.  Bluefish and mackerel are still being taken around the jetties with some redfish and flounder around those areas.  March is always a good fishing month, but always a windy month to keep you guessing.  Getting out early will generally give you a few hours to enjoy the water before the gusts set in for the day.  Use the islands and shorelines to find the areas that are fishable.
